PAIN!
I shouldn't have use this word actually.
"Dental Visit are Sooo Painful, Scary!";"Dentists are sadists."
Well, if you have said that before, don't worry you are not alone. It's a common feeling throughout the world, thks to the media who glorifies this more, and the poor oral hygiene by patients, and finallly dental practicioners themselves.
It's A Vicious Cylcle. In schools, some dentists or dental Nurses are notorious for scolding the children for not brushing their teeth. Thanks to that, Ppl grow fearful of dental treatment and never see one after graduation from schools only until their teeth rot and give pain.
So pain is often associated with dental treatments. Actually this dental treatment phobia and discomfort can be minimised with regular checkups(see previous post). And so dental treatments have always been a pleasant experience for me as i always feel it being cleaned! DENTAL SPA! :) .
But if for those ppl who have since grown fearful of treatments you can actually be conscious of your discomfort and arrest it now. Stop the vicious cycle. Talk to your dentist about it. And before that choose one that is patient and nice. Get recommendations from your friends who have been to one.
You have a choice, My Dear.
For those with siblings/children, it's important to incalcate good dental hygiene since young and stop using words like pain and add on to their fear. In fact, going to the dentist CAN be a fun experience for kids. Habits Die Hard. Trust me, i'm a good eg. I love dental visits as my mom always create a positive experience for me and my dentists/nurses are good or at least "neutral" ppl. And for flossing frankly i didn't start till i learnt that it's important while applying for dentistry and it's still quite an effort to maintain- unlike brushing teeth started in childhood followed me as naturally as sleeping daily is a must. Not brushing teeth 2 times a day just feel not right.
So let us stop the vicious cycle and let the kids enjoy dental visits. :) .
Give them nothing but the best!
